Health & safety risk assessments
All employers and self-employed persons must ensure that health and safety risk assessments are undertaken in respect of their work undertakings.
Risk assessments should be undertaken by competent persons who possess:
-
adequate technical knowledge about the process or operation being assessed
-
awareness of and ability to interpret relevant regulations
-
awareness of and ability to interpret relevant codes of practice, HSE guidance documents, etc
-
awareness of and ability to interpret industry best practice.
Where there are five or more employees, the employer must retain a written record of the risk assessment.
Risk assessments must be reviewed periodically (e.g. annually) or at such time as there are significant changes to the work undertaking.
